A Quick Renters Insurance Guide

For those of you who rent, it’s important to make sure your personal possessions are protected. Here are just a few things to consider:

1) Amount of coverage- if your apartment burned in a fire, how much will it cost to replace all of your clothes, furniture, appliances, electronics, etc? Make an inventory list.

2) Replacement cost- make sure you have “Replacement Cost” coverage, not actual cash value. Replacement cost coverage will insure you can replace your items with new items.

3) Liability protection- make sure your policy includes Liability coverage.

4) For parents of children who are away at school in an apartment, it’s important to know that with most insurance companies, unless they are in student housing, your property most insurance WILL NOT extend to their personal property in their apartment.
